Landscape Design and the Washington Highlands
Lecture and Walking Tour

Week 1: Dennis Buettner’s design projects include O’Donnell Park, Villa Terrace gardens and the gardens of the Wisconsin Governor’s residence. Dennis will share the landscape designs of Frederick Law Olmsted and others, social and political history of the landscape movement in 19th-century America, and changing attitudes toward urban designs today.


Week 2: The Washington Highlands Historic District, designed by Werner Hegemann & Elbert Peets, incorporates many of Olmsted’s design elements. On this walk, enjoy the unique aesthetic appeal of curving streets, incorporation of natural elements, park placement and a wide variety of housing styles. The historical context of the Pabst Family farm will also be addressed.

PhotoShop Elements 7.0 for Photographers Hands-On Workshop

Prerequisite: Digital Photography, working knowledge of Windows or Mac OS.
Please note:  Although the official description of the course says that the Digital Photography course is a pre-requisite, this will be waived for participants at the Library who have a digital camera and are comfortable with its use.

Instructor Chris Pollack is a published, award winning photographer who has extensive photography experience and technical expertise. He will guide you through PhotoShop Elements to assist you in making your digital photos come alive. Learn how to soften edges, adjust lighting and color, remove blemishes and touch-up photos. Each class participant will have a laptop to work on during the class. Please bring your own photos on a CD or flash drive.
